Extortion Collection

Collecting Extortion records turned out to be a bad habit. Here's a complete collection of their releases so far. Rumor is that there's a new LP in the works as well as splits with Cold World (Austria), Hatred Surge, Low Threat Profile and Agoraphobic Nosebleed.

Extortion / Rupture - Split 5" (Silver Cover)

This post will probably make a few of you bummed out. It's taken a long time but I finally managed to get a copy of this little bastard. RSR made 50 of these silver covers with the first press and apparently there are also some with gold covers but I have never actually seen one before. There's a few releases I still need to complete my collection so if you have anything I'm missing please hit me up for trades or cash.

RSR recently put out this 2 track 5" by Extortion. Both songs are out takes from the 2007 Sick recordings so this is classic Perth line up here. Coma is a slow dirgy instrumental and Decompose is a ripper of a track that could have easily been left on the Sick LP. Only 300 of these little guys were pressed, all on black vinyl. 100 copies came with limited Chaos In Tejas covers but to make things even more frustrating for Extortion collectors there were half printed on red sleeves and the other half on orange sleeves. Add that to the never ending list!

Extortion / Completed Exposition - Split 7"

Here's the new Extortion split with Japan's Completed Exposition. I was a bit surprised when the needle first hit Extortion's side and out came a rather catchy drumbeat leading into an instrumental intro that gets slower and slower. Then you're hit in face with two new fast songs and they finish off with a ripping Man Is The Bastard cover. Completed Exposition side is good too but not something I would've usually bought, that's splits for ya. You can pick this up from RSR, there's 500 on black, 100 with tour sleeves.

Extortion - Demo 7" (Launch Cover)

Went to an Extortion show on the weekend and picked up another copy of the demo 7". These were made up for the Perth record launch shows. This one's a bit different to the advanced one I got a few weeks ago. It has a double sided sleeve instead of the single sided one that just slipped over the original sleeve. Also has a stamped red inner sleeve and a small replica insert of the original artwork. My girlfriend gives me shit for buying too many copies of the same record but I can't resist it, I'm addicted haha.

I also picked up this rad hand screened print.

Extortion - Demo 7" (Launch Cover)

This is a limited cover for the Perth launch coming up on June 4th. One of my favorite Extortion covers so far, looks awsome. The final package will probably be stamped or something like that. If you want one go to the show.

Extortion Collection

I received a record in the mail yesterday that I've been chasing for sometime. The record was the 12" repress of the first Extortion 7" on green vinyl. I don't know how many of these were made as Extortion's facebook says there were 50 green yet I've also seen it listed as 200. The main reason this was so hard to get was most of the green copies were sold on the US tour. Luckily I found one of these americans on a message board who was willing to sell it to me.

Thought I'd celebrate by taking a photo of my collection so far. I know it's not complete as I'm still missing a few things but it's pretty damn close. I'm not even going to go down the road of test press collecting, that would be a nightmare as well as very expensive. That being said I wouldn't turn one down if it came my way haha.

Extortion Collector Scum

Thought some of you Extortion collector scum would be interested in this. Don't know if it's legit but looks like there is a Loose Screws accidently pressed on 12". I would have liked to have gotten this simply because I hate 10"s so much. Must have been a buy it now sale as there was only one bid and I never saw this come up. Fuck!

Extortion - Demo 7"

This is the Extortion demo tape pressed on vinyl. Worth buying just for the 2 new tracks tacked on the end, it's good to hear a recording from the current line up for once. I'm pretty sure I've heard the new songs played live before as they sound familiar. 500 total were pressed and 40 pre orders came with this pink cover instead of the regular white one. The stamp says number 208 out of 40 which I assume is referencing the 208 house in Perth. You can buy it from Coffin Cut Records or from the band, links below.

Extortion/Septic Surge Split 7"

Managed to get a hold of the limited edition covers for the Extortion/Septic Surge split from RSR. Not really heaps stoked on these but I bought them anyway to keep the collection complete. The original artwork is way better and part of the reason I like collecting Extortion records is they look good as a set because all the artwork is done by one artist (Rohan Harrison). These ones kind of stick out like a sore thumb, anyway here they are.

Here's some local produce I picked up at the Extortion show last night.

Helta Skelta - Parasite Tape
I was really impressed with this bands set last night. The members in Helta Skelta already play in some of Perth's most well known hardcore bands but this group doesn't really sound like any of their other bands so I won't bother with the name dropping. They have a track up on their myspace you can check out here. The tapes got 4 tracks, one is a cover of SSD - Get It Away.

Extortion/Rupture 5"

Finally got round to getting the white 3rd press of this release on RSR. Completes the Extortion collection a little further. Doubt I'll ever find any of the limited covers for this record but I'll keep trying.

Freedom Is Free #1

New Perth zine full of interviews with Extortion, Suffer, Battletruk, Vanity, Bridge The Gap and Coffin Cut Records. Came with a download link for a song by each band interviewed including a ripping unreleased track from Extortion called Decompose. Good read. Extortion Bootleg

This is one strange record put out by Coughin Cunt Records. The cover is a rip off of the artwork for the up coming Extortion Demo 7" on Coffin Cut Records. It's a photocopied piece of paper glued to the back of a Terminal Cancer cover. My copy came with bonus staples that prevent you from getting the record out. The music is just the A side of the Terminal Cancer 7" and Extortion's side of the Jed Whitey split 7". Same as a mispressed test pressing that I saw selling on ebay not long ago. Don't know if these are leftover test pressings or a bootleg of a test pressing? Apparently there's a 100 of these out there.
