Pellinore - Memento Mori 7"

This was the first release for both Pellinore and Free Cake Records. They play a fast dirgy hardcore with lots of different influences mixed in. Really fucking good stuff and if you don't believe me you can download it here for free from the Free Cake site. This came out in 2007 and is now out of print, my copy is on grey vinyl limited to 325 copies.

Buzzoven - Wound 7"

Buzzoven were one of the first sludge bands and this was their first ep released back in 1992 by Allied Recordings. Looks like they're playing some re-union shows later in the year and I'll be in the US around that time hopefully I'll get to see them. Just happened to get two 7"s in the mail that had babies on the cover. Weird.

Excretion / Ultimo Rausea - Split 7"

Here's another piece of Perth punk history. This is a split with Excretion from Perth, Western Australia and Ultimo Rausea from Japan and it was released back in 1994 by Ecocentric Records in Germany. I don't know much about Excretion, which is why I chased down this record. There's 9 tracks on their side including a Sore Throat cover and they play a kinda grindcore / punk style with an un-pc type of humor. Anyone know any info on this band or if they made other records?

Eddy Current Suppression Ring / Deathwish - Split 7"

Just got this in the mail the other day. It's the latest release from Eddy Current Suppression Ring and also happens to be issue 30 of Distort Fanzine. If you're not already a subscriber I'd recommend you sign up, it's a good read and you'll get a couple of 7"s each year too.

Voorhees

Voorhees were a hardcore band from the UK that formed in 1990 and put out a heap of records all throughout the 90s. I've always thought they were really underrated and the fact that I scored these early 7"s for fuck all off ebay, it seems there's still not much interest in them. Maybe it's because they're not from the mighty US of A, I don't know. The "Spilling Blood Without Reason" LP is still my favorite Voorhees release and you should bloody well listen to it if you haven't already. It's been repressed by Grot Records on red vinyl recently and you can buy it here. Now here's the 7"s I recently added to my collection.

Voorhees - Violent 7"
1993 Armed With Anger Records. First press of 1000.

Voorhees - What You See Is What You Get 7"
1997 Crust Records. 1000 - 2000 copies pressed?

Voorhees - Fire Proof 7"
Chainsaw Safety Records. Black vinyl limited to 900.

Waste Management - Taster Too With More Live Street Beef

Boston Hardcore band Waste Management's cassette compilation. This has got some Pain Cave sessions and live recordings on it. I think this is the second run limited to 200 on Fun With Smack Records.

Flesh World - Demo Tape

Flesh World are a newish band from Victoria, Australia. Noisy hardcore influenced by Void, Black Flag and Flipper. This is a bullshit good demo and the artworks hilarious. I picked mine up from No Patience or you can download off the bands blog here. Do it!

Pissed Jeans - Shallow 12"

This is the first album from Pissed Jeans released by Parts Unknown Records back in 2005. I've been chasing this one for a while but kept getting outbid by snipers on ebay with more time and money than me. Finally found a copy and that completes my Pissed Jeans collection so far. Just hanging for a new release to drop now.

Grief - Come To Grief 12"

This is Grief's second album that was originally released in 1994. Throne Records gave it the deluxe vinyl treatment with super thick gatefold sleeve on two 180 gram records. It was limited to 666 copies total with the orange vinyl out of 222. It looks and sounds amazing. Throne have two more Grief albums listed as coming soon, "Miserably Ever After" and "Torso", so hopefully they come sooner than later.

Thou - Malfeasance / Retribution 10"

This has been one of the more difficult Thou records to get my hands on. It was put out by Feast Of Tentacles and Rimbaud Records in a limited supply of 525 copies. I've heard that there is also 150 on lathe cuts but I've never seen one to confirm. As with most Thou releases the packaging is top quality and this one has a stapled booklet as part of the sleeve. It's out of print but it looks like Robotic Empire are doing a repress sometime in the future.

Trash Talk - Eyes & Nines 12"

The new album from Trash Talk just turned up on my doorstep. This was self released on their Trash Talk Collective label. They bash out 10 songs in under 18 minutes with the doomy track "Hash Wednesday" making up a quarter of that. I like it when fast bands throw in a slower song, it breaks it up a bit and when the fast stuff comes back on it sounds twice as fast as before. When I first saw the cover art for this I thought it looked a little plain but that was before I saw it was a die cut sleeve, which looks much better. My copy is on clear vinyl which is not so limited to 1400 copies. I would have chosen a rarer colour but the pressing info wasn't announced until after the pre-orders were up so I had I guess and lucked out. I must say this is one of the clearest records I've ever seen. Usually clear vinyl has a hint of another colour in it but this one I couldn't even get to show up in the photos. Invisible wax!

Thou / The City Is The Tower - Dwell In The Darkness Of Thought And Drink The Poison Of Life 12"

Another new Thou split that just dropped from Init Records. This one is with a band called The City Is The Tower. They play a kinda screamy hardcore style that I'm not really heaps into. Usually if I'm playing a Thou record it's because I'm in a doom listening mood so I probably won't flip this side over much but that's splits for you. There's probably people that bought it for The City Is The Tower side that would say the same thing about Thou.  The Thou side has one 10 minute doom epic and an Agents Of Oblivion cover. Red vinyl is limited to 200 copies and you can still buy one here if you're quick.

Trapped In A Scene 12"

This is a power violence / hardcore compilation that came out a couple of years back on 625 Thrash Core and Give Praise Records. I don't usually buy compilations anymore but there's a lot of really good bands on here including Hatred Surge, Iron Lung and In Disgust. Each band has at least 2 tracks or more in a row so it feels kinda like listening to a bunch of 7"s without having to get up. Back when I was first getting into punk music, compilations and label samplers were the best way to hear new bands. I would buy every comp I could find and would usually end up liking a few bands enough to hunt down their records. This was before the internet, so you couldn't just download mp3s or check out a bands myspace.   Compilations still serve a purpose but they're just not as necessary as they were back then I guess. I think the vinyl of this was limited to 500 and it's out of print now but you can still get it on CD.

Thou / Moloch - Tears That Soak A Callous Heart

Just received the new Thou / Moloch split in the mail. Thou are pumping out the releases at the moment with plenty more to come, including a new LP on Southern Lord, heaps of splits and a few represses too. This was put out by The Perpetual Motion Machine on 12" and Cassette. Both bands play crushing sludge and both bands kill it on this split. Usually I end up listening to one band on a split way more than the other but this record is going to get an even spin.

1000 clear vinyl were pressed and the first 130 orders came with a silk screened poster.

The cassette was limited to 300 and came with a patch. There's still some left so go buy here now.

The Bastard Noise - A Culture Of Monsters 12"

New album from The Bastard Noise on Deep Six Records. If my memory is correct the red vinyl was limited to 200. Came in a gatefold sleeve with foldout poster. The colour scheme kinda hurts my eyes but the music is killer.

Here's the new video, fucking hilarious!
