Moss - Sub Templum

Moss are from the UK and play slow tortuous doom with some of the evilest howls I've ever heard. The vocalist sounds like he's being burned at the stake. Fans of Sunn 0)) and Burning Witch should check this band out if you haven't already. This is their second LP and it was released by Rise Above Records. I think this green/black splatter is a second press limited to 300 copies.

Hooded Menace - Never Cross The Dead

Hooded Menace are a Doomy Death Metal band from Finland and this is their second album. They're influenced by bands like Winter, Cathedral and Candlemass and the lyrics are mostly horror themed. Whenever I play this record I end up in a hypnotic lounge room headbang, it just sucks you in. The logo and cover art is fucking awesome too. I managed to score the black and red splatter vinyl which was limited to 100 copies. Doomentia Records seem to be sold out of this already but you might be able to find one somewhere else if you're quick.

Swallowed - Swallowed Cassette

This is the cassette version of Swallowed's first EP. The 7" is sold out but I have a copy on it's way. For me this is a huge step up from their demos, it's heaps doomier than before and the vocals are evil as hell. You can listen to the whole EP on their myspace and the tape is still available from Emptiness Productions.  I highly recommend everyone give it a listen.

Swallowed - Epitaph Of Nauseation

Swallowed are a Doomy Death Metal band from Finland and this is their second demo. Autopsy seem to have been a major influence on them which isn't a bad thing at all and they cover "In The Grip Of Winter" at the end of the tape. You can download the bands first two demos from their website here.

Prisonbitch - Tour Tape

I managed to see Prisonbitch on their recent Perth tour and thought they were pretty sick. They're from Radelaide and play heavy doom laden hardcore that my ears are still ringing from. Grabbed one of these tapes while I was there, that they dubbed up for the occasion. Looks like they have a full length coming out early next year so keep an eye out for that and go see them play if you get the chance.

Autopsy - Mental Funeral

Here's another Peaceville Records reissue, Autopsy's 2nd full length on 180 gram red vinyl. I'm not a huge fan of straight up Death Metal but Mental Funeral has enough of a Doom crossover to please my eardrums. This one's been getting a lot of play in my car this year and every time I listen to it I like it more and more. If you enjoyed Black Breath's latest then I would recommend giving this a spin, it's an absolute classic.

Darkthrone - Panzerfaust

Peaceville Records have just reissued Darkthrone's 5th album Panzerfaust on 180 gram vinyl. They seem to have skipped Transilvanian Hunger as part of this reissue series and will continue releasing the later albums from Moonfrog Productions after this. Hopefully Transilvanian Hunger gets this treatment soon. The best part is a piece written by Fenriz about the making of the album which is printed on the inner sleeve. The dude's a legend. I must have got in quick with this as I scored number 16 of 2000.

Extortion / Completed Exposition - Split 7"

Here's the new Extortion split with Japan's Completed Exposition. I was a bit surprised when the needle first hit Extortion's side and out came a rather catchy drumbeat leading into an instrumental intro that gets slower and slower. Then you're hit in face with two new fast songs and they finish off with a ripping Man Is The Bastard cover. Completed Exposition side is good too but not something I would've usually bought, that's splits for ya. You can pick this up from RSR, there's 500 on black, 100 with tour sleeves.

Iron Curtain - Reissues

Pylon Records have reissued some more records from synth/goth group Iron Curtain. These are some of their singles pressed on coloured vinyl. All of these songs are already on the Desertion compilation except for "Miami Beach" which has been added as a bonus track to the Shadow 12". If you're into Joy Division / New Order then I would recommend giving this band a listen. They were a bit on the pricy side for singles but still cheaper than paying hundreds of dollars for an original. You can buy them here if your interested.

Iron Curtain - Shadow 12"
Limited to 300

Iron Curtain - Terror Story / Anorexia 7"
Limited to 200

Iron Curtain - Like A Family / Telephone 7"
Limited to 200

Pissed Jeans - Your Life Is Worth 7"

The new Pissed Jeans 7" just dropped into my mailbox. Two songs exclusive to this record, nothing new here but I'm not complaining. Sweet looking record too, digging the bright colours and retro looking labels. Out now on Sub Pop.

Morne

I've been listening to Morne a lot lately and finally got round to picking up their records. They play dark atmospheric doomy crust with a definite Amebix and Neurosis influence. Jeff Hayward from Grief/Disrupt fame plays guitar/backing vocals, which was what sparked my initial interest in the band. This is all their recorded output to date, except the demo. They're currently working on a 2nd album so I can't wait to hear how that turns out.

Morne - Untold Wait 12"

Morne - Twilight Burns / Seams 7"

Morne / Warprayer - Split 12"

Get them from Feral Ward.

Trap Them - Filth Rations Cassette

This is the cassette version of Trap Them's latest EP "Filth Rations". It came out as a one sided etched 12" earlier in the year on Southern Lord but I'm such a sucker for tapes, I had to have this too. They've gone all out on the packaging for this release and it turned out amazing. One of the best tape releases I've ever seen. It's limited to 350 copies and you can still get one from Dead Accents if you're quick.

Confines - Withdrawn 7"

I picked up Confines latest 7" after being impressed with their demo from last year. The demo above really shreds and "Withdrawn" is just as good. Confines are from Boston and play fast chaotic hardcore with really pissed off but intelligent lyrics. I've been a bit bored with hardcore lately but this is definitely one of the better releases in the genre to come out this year. The sleeve is a foldout poster on textured paper and there's also a essay / rant to read as well as all the lyrics. Get it from Labour Of Love and Side Two. The demo is sold out but you can download here.
