My Disco - Young

Young is a 10+ minute long song My Disco put out last year as a 12" single with the B-side being a remix of the same song. The packaging is not much to look at but it suits the minimalist music on this track. The first time I played this record the repetition actually sent me into a deep sleep, but I was pretty hungover at the time. Mistletone made 500 copies and they seem to be all sold out from the label but you can still pick one up from a few distros and stores if you're quick.

Sixx - Sister Devil

Sixx is a side project of early American black metal band Von. Besides having the same members, there's not a lot of similarities between the two. There's still the repetition and creepy spoken word between songs like the Von demos but Sixx is Goth/Deathrock all the way. Sister Devil was originally released as a demo tape in 1991 in a minuscule amount of 100 copies and was the only recordings the band made. They sound like a mish mash of Sisters Of Mercy, Misfits and early Christian Death so if you like the sound of that you'd best check them out. You can buy this 12" repress from NWN Productions.

Useless Children - Sky Is Falling

Useless Children are currently touring Australia with Walls so I caught a couple of their sets in Melbourne and grabbed a copy of their LP while I was over there. Maybe it's just the vocals but this band sounds like they'd be right at home on the Kill Rock Stars label with Bikini Kill and Heavens To Betsy. I listened to a lot of Riot Grrrl in my teens so I'm loving this record. Check out the clip below! The record's on blue vinyl and comes with 3D cover and hand numbered glasses limited to 500. I got number 69 yeah! Buy it from EXO Records while there's still some left.

Walls - Tour 7" (2nd Press)

I just got back from seeing Walls play in Melbourne and I've gotta say it was well worth the trip over there. Unbelievably intense live, you must see them if you get a chance. I picked up another copy of their tour 7" and it's different to the one they were selling on the US tours. I don't know if this was made just for the Australian tour or just a second press. The main difference is it's on green vinyl this time and the cover is a glossy print where as the first press was black vinyl with a silkscreened matt black card cover.

That's me up the front with the long crusty hair.

Kromosom - Demo

Kromosom are a hardcore punk band from Melbourne, Australia with Yeap from Pisschrist on guitar. I got to see them play a show on their recent tour and was blown away. This demo has been on constant rotation ever since, love the blown out recording and the echoey vocals. If you want to track one down you can still buy one from No Patience, Missing Link and Havoc but don't snooze. There's a download link here if you miss out or don't have a tape player.

Thou - Summit

Here's the latest full length from Thou to add to my ever growing collection. White vinyl mail-order edition exclusive to Southern Lord. The packaging looks a bit plain in the photos but it's actually got a glossy print over the white. I've raved on about this band many times before but I'll say it again, one of the best modern sludge bands around.
